Sorry I Missed This: New Doubting Thomas Cruise Control

I loved what I heard from Doubting Thomas Cruise Control back in 205 with their Remember Me John Lydon Forever LP; it offered up a heavier, punkier version of the slow-core perfected by the likes of Bedhead. Now, they’ve just released Bob Ross II, with similar notes, though the puncher elements bring an added attitude of quirkiness/nerdiness, like theshort jam “Catch My Drift.” The album also has an ode to everyone’s favorite foil Falstaff, so that works for this bookworm. If you’re looking for a rocking act that owes debts to the New Year or Pinback, then go grab this LP now, and feel free to enjoy rock n’ roll again.

Noisey New Pop Number From Dead Leaf Echo

As if I wasn’t already excited enough for Brooklyn based Dead Leaf Echo to be heading into town for SXSW, I now have this new single to grow my anticipation. As usual, these guys bring a noisy, shoegaze pop sound worthy ofall the current greats in the genre. Not surprising when each band member has a history of greatness in bands like Wax Idols, My Bloody Valentine, No Joy, etc. Get ready.

Dead Leaf Echo will release a new EP entitled Strawberry Skin on March 31st via Papercup Music.

Sun Voyager Return With Another Banger

Brooklyn based rockers Sun Voyager is a band that has long earned praise here on ATH. Their music is always heavy and always rocking, similar to bands like Ty Segall or even local group Swords. Today they’ve shared with me this incredible new track “Trip”. If you were dragging on your Friday morning, this song will surely wake your ass up and set you right. Enjoy.

Stream New Album From Belle Mare

529431_528583087180356_926163089_nSome of you may recognize the name Belle Mare from their surprising debut EP entitled The Boat of the Fragile Mind out in 2013. Hopefully the band has been on your mind over the last few years because they’ve been working on a new album up in New York since that time. The album is called Heaven Forget and was released towards the end of last month. For those unacquainted with the band, be ready for some dream pop music similar to Beach House or My Gold Mask with some truly emotion evoking rises and falls. Basically, it’s pretty damn good. Gimme 5: Slothrust

unnamed-1After the smashing success of my first Gimme 5 feature with ACL band Corbu, I decided to keep the idea churning with bands coming into Austin. An easy first choice for the idea was Brooklyn rockers Slothrust. The band was in town last night at The Parish, and though I couldn’t be in attendance, I hear the show was was like most Slothrust shows, bad ass. True Beauty From Sam Kogan

unnamed-8It’s Thursday and I’m struggling through this week, but things can always perk up when you find a song like this one in your inbox. It’s called “Something’s Wrong” and comes by way of Brooklyn singer/songwriter Sam Kogan. It’s sort of a psych pop opus featuring a beginning similar to a band like Choir of Young Believers, but slowly builds into a full on rock jam out session near the end. It’s an epic joy ride of pop music.

Kogan will release new album Psychic Tears on October 28th via Beyond Beyond is Beyond Records.

CC Mose Delivers Folk Beauty

unnamed (12)Many of you probably know I have a soft spot for indiesinger songwriters who craft heartfelt and mesmerizing tunes. Chris Robbins is another artist who creates just such tunes under his moniker CC Mose. This single “A Sad Song” blends some of my favorite artists of the genre like JBM, A.A. Bondy, or even Horse Feathers. It’s a truly memorable track.

CC Mose will drop Beat Me on August 19th via Plastic Jurassic.

Slacker Rock From Gap Dream

unnamed (1)Wasn’t I just saying something this morning about how impressive Burger Records has become with picking up new talent and sharing their music with the world? Well they are at it again in a short span of a few hours with this new single and album from previously ATH approved band Gap Dream. The tune is a meandering bit of slacker style indie rock music with an entrancing little guitar diddy carried on throughout the song. Carry on dude.

Edgy Rocker From Lumps

If you check out their latest single “Sleep Tight” below, I think you will likely agree with that self assessment. I’m personally reminded of a band like Wavves with just a bit of edge to their rock n roll sound. Welcome to the party Lumps.

unnamedEarring is a Chicago based band Nathan and I have both taken a liking to over the last year or so. Though neither of us seem to able to classify the band’s sound, the boys certainly have received the ATH seal of approval. Today I’m excited to share with you their latest single “Slow Mud”. Imagine if you will that a slow core band melded with one of the best indie psych rock bands and that’s about what you have here. Unique to say the least.

New album Tunn Star will drop on June 10th via Fire Talk Records.
