There’s something special in a Guided By Voices performance, something that brings out hordes of old fans desperate to see their favorite front-man take the stage, bottle of beer in hand. For all intents and purposes, the set at Emo’s was exactly what was asked for, with opener Detective doing a good job warming the audience up before our heroes took to the stage.
With the rest of the ATH crew spread out at shows all over Austin, I stepped in to see Eternal Summers with Bleeding Rainbow and local favorites Rayon Beach Thursday night, which I was more than happy to do.

Last Thursday was a busy night for music. Poor Fiona.
After taking Dustin Wong, The Walkmen and Beach House, ATH hit two other shows including one we were presenting at Red7. White Arrows was back in town as a headliner after playing the opening slot for Beat Connection, a show where the headliner was bested. It was good to see these guys come back through and put forth another great set.

In what was an absolutely hectic night for the Austin music scene, we started our evening at Stubbs catching two of the better acts in the whole scene, The Walkmen and Beach House. For my two cents, there was only one clear-cut winner on the evening, but for that you’ll have to read on.

You’ve probably seen this headline on our site many, many times before, but we’re always more than happy to spend our night watching two of our favorite bands, Ty Segall and Thee Oh Sees. A couple of great local opening acts added an extra touch of class to the night.

When I first heard Fragrant World, the newest record from Yeasayer, I wondered if it would be as impressive as Odd Blood. It took me a few spins, but eventually, I found it’s progression and warmth more than enjoyable, so I was really looking forward to their live presentation of the new material at Stubb’s on Thursday night.

Last night’s show at Emos was a much-anticipated gig, featuring two huge acts touring together. Wye Oak served as the appetizer for the Dirty Projectors, setting us all up for what would be a pretty solid evening all around.

We gathered our team together this past Thursday, hoping to catch a great show over at Red 7. Two of the much-hyped Interweb bands would be taking to the stage, so we figured we had to be there to see what they really had to offer. Our photographer Brian was on hand to snap some great pics despite being forced to shoot from behind and around the ridiculous amount of video cameras present.
Saturday night is always about fun. Your body gets to rest during the day, you get to party all night, and recover on Sunday. That’s why having Quintron and Miss Pussycat in town was perfect for Saturday night, not to mention opening acts The Golden Boys and Dent May.

We braved the hot temperatures and hordes of tribal tattoos to catch Crocodiles over at Stubbs; the band was opening for Temper Trap. After releasing Endless Flowers just last week, I’d already gotten familiar with the bands tunes, which might not have been the case for the majority of those in attendance.
